Editor,
Attention Premier Danielle Smith:
I’ve worked in the oilfield, and am a proud conservative. I first voted for Premier Peter Lougheed, you may have heard of him. Were he alive today and in politics, he’s what you would refer to as a “Liberal” or “leftist”.
Your mentor and American Idol Donald Trump received both his flu and COVID-19 vaccinations this week. COVID has a higher mortality than the flu. I apologize for inserting “science,” “facts” or “math” into this request as I know how irritating they can be.
Yes, it costs money for average Albertans to maintain our vaccines but when compared to hospitalization it seems like a good investment. I respect that you moved the onerous task of distributing these vaccines out of easily accessible pharmacies and back into our busy hospitals.
As for the cost, $100 per vaccine, or approximately $143million to vaccinate all Albertans. Wait…I recognize that number…oh, right, that’s the same amount you just paid an Aussie coal company to settle out of court one of the many lawsuits against the UCP government.
I hope you noticed I haven’t pointed out the failure by our political leaders regarding Alberta’s measles outbreak. I deliberately didn’t mention that as I thought it might be a sore spot.
I am writing to beg for your grace and urge you to allow regular Albertans be vaccinated as well. I promise not to waste it, or sell it on the dark web. I promise to vote for you if you demonstrate your greatness in this way.
Yours is the Kingdom, the power, and the glory…no wait, sorry that’s the wrong quote.

Brilliant!
You’re being far too polite — the absurdity of making vaccines harder to get while bragging about “freedom” is peak irony. It’s not liberal or conservative to want people to stay healthy; it’s just common sense. Lougheed understood that leadership meant balance, not ideology.
Feels like Alberta’s politics have turned into Geometry Dash Lite — one wrong move and everything crashes, but instead of learning, we just keep hitting the same spike.
What Trump says and does , Smith does it better…
Smith might have received her COVID and flu vaccines last week, earlier, and better, than Trump. Will we ever know?
undermining the public health system has been the con named party approach in alberta for decades. heck, the ucp even gave what amounted to a pat on the back for the obvious graft that routinely took place via ahs conflict of interest contracts. the idea, of course, is to make public health appear unsustainable so as to make health for profit appear favourable.
the very idea that vaccinations should come with additional fees to taxpayers, save for those that are only necessary for recreational travel, is unacceptable.
I can understand why the government doesn’t want to waste vaccines but even if they give us a choice to get our covid shot by booking it and if we don’t show up charging us for it would be more logical, but then look at measles in Alberta.
