Editor,
I wrote months ago about how Carney’s efforts would result in no deal and of course others believed he would get a deal. He did exactly what I suspected, which was to remove the counter-tariffs under the guise it was hurting Canadians, which I find somewhat amusing because he continues to warn of pain to come.
I don’t think he gets it yet. He pretends daily that a deal is imminent only to see it fall off the rails as Trump wakes up offended. For someone who identifies as not from the woke crowd, it seems Trump gets offended more than most of those he despises?
Carney’s latest backpedal has shown that he still is a Liberal first and a Canadian second. The apology for Captain Ontario’s advertisement was short sighted and revealed that when the “team” puts him in a bad light he is more than willing to identify the team by party allegiance. The day he apologized was the day Captain Ontario (who was a pretend Liberal) was identified as a Conservative!
“The team” finally had its last member dumped on the side of the road while the neophyte bows and kisses the ring!
There will be no deal and the renegotiation of CUSMA will likely be a reality show where Trump fires and rehires on a regular basis. Don’t get me wrong, Trump can do as he wishes (and does); its his right, he was democratically elected. I have no bones to pick with our Southern neighbours, they get to run their country the way they wish, period. That also means we should run our country the way we wish.
I tend to look at things at face value. The U.S. insists they protect us, yet it’s the only nation that is threatening our sovereignty. The greatest threats to the U.S. real or imagined are China and Russia. In the event of an attack, does any reader actually believe that Canada will NOT be the radioactive debris field?
If we are to suffer great pain as Carney will have you believe, then let’s get on with it! Having the doctor stand beside you with a massive needle telling you from day to day that it’s really going to hurt prolongs the pain and psychologically damages the country. Jab us and get it over with! As for the U.S. ambassador- toss him!

I believe that Carney is the best leader we could have at this time considering the alternative is the leader of a party that’s falling apart. However, I also think Carney hasn’t been as tough with Trump as he should be considering the dictator down south has treated Canada so badly. We must dramatically reduce our dependence on the US and switch out trade priorities to more reliable and trustworthy countries. I think Carney is doing that but we need to see concrete results.
Carney could start very simply by dropping the tarriff on ev’s from China . The benefit to the canola industry would be astronomical. Carney won’t though. Crap on western Canada and suck up to the east.
Said the wise one whose eyes only see to the Sask border. As if canola farmers are the only ones hurting. Take a deep breath and try and realize it is Canada, you know that country just north of America , which is hurting – canola, lumber, autos, aluminum, steel to name a few few and guess what? The industries are spread across the nation, so get off your high horse , quit whining about everything that happens beyond the western provincial borders. People were screaming for ev tariffs on China because of US threats and now, when (predictably ) things are still going sideways, the likes of you insist on dropping them. Trump is the villain here , not Carney…
While my American Relatives who have apposed what Trump is doing although they are Republicans have stated all along that he will never be allowed to getaway with it the people will never allow it, and the recent elections proved it yet these Reform Party fools like Dennis aren’t. smart enough to understand that Carney has proven time and time again he is a lot smarter and was likely waiting for the lawsuits to begin like my relatives knew they would. Dennis would rather get Canada sued by Trump instead that’s how stupid he is, isn’t
he ?
I am a Blue Conservative, when there is little sign of Blue like there is now, your alternative is to become an NDP. Which means you really are not Blue. I would prefer to boycott elections rather then support a exteme left party that strives to go farther left to garner any whack jobs they can find on the margins to garner votes. Much like the UCP is doing with the right nut jobs.
I stay true to my roots where you are more than willing to abandon ship and join the woke….and I am the fool? lol
As far as federal politics is concerned, I believe Carney is the best man for the job at the moment, but that does not mean he is doing a good job, just better than Poliviere would ever do.
So by all means “Fedup” join the orange but stop the incessant rants of the “I used to be a conservative in the good ole days” You are a wokey orangey NDPer now, so grow a set and say so! Chris d’Entremont crossed the floor to the Liberals, do you think he will spend all his time talking to his new liberal friends saying “I used to be a Conservative like you do”?
I will be forever blue….I try to find flickers of blue in the UCP but all I see from day to day is the Nutbar wildrose creating every stupid decision possible. The latest, Notwithstanding Clause maneouver garantees me a sideline seat until I see blue in Alberta, which may never occur. Meanwhile enjoy your time as a new wokey NDPer!
Where doe it say that to be a true conservative you have to be an idiot and automatically vote conservative and ignore the fact that these are Reformers and are showing no respect for the Alberta people especially our children and grandchildren? Have you noticed people don’t agree with you?
Dropping Hoekstra is the best suggestion yet. Given what seems to be happening with the recent state elections , perhaps, just perhaps, the American people are realizing the bloated, power hungry, self centred pillock resting in the about to be renovated WH, does not in reality speak for them. Here’s hoping.
(It is not “his right” to do as he pleases. The founding fathers recognized the need for check and balances – procedures and institutions that Trump ripped up and tossed out. Problem with the current administration is the ripple effect spread across the planet. No one gains by this .)
In all of this, it could be, perhaps, a matter of a situation of ‘biding time.’
There has been much speculation/observation recently re: not only Trump’s possible physical health but neurologic health as well. Time will only tell. In simple terms though, Trump just does not ‘look well,’ and there were the interesting situations of him wandering around at a function in Japan and needing cueing and redirection, and, falling asleep during at least one briefing in the oval office, the bruising on his hand(s), the officially mentioned venous insufficiency re: his foot and ankle edema, his unhealthy diet, the drooping of the right side of his mouth/face particularly when he gets tired with questions re: a stroke or TIAs since the beginning of September……
The question could be though: Who would be worse? Trump or JD Vance?
There is also the consideration of the Democrat sweep of recent mayoral and governor elections, and Trump’s decreasing popularity with regard to upcoming midterm elections results. With the government shutdown there now, they have a real mess on their hands. One could wonder, where is their leadership?
it is without foundation to say unequivocally that carney cannot make a deal with trump. mind you, whatever deal is struck is certainly hard to count on.
i would prefer carney create deals to replace and supplant our ridiculous dependency on the usa. it is time to leave the nest. what gets in the way of the better way is that the canadian business “elite” only ever have known how suck the teat of the usa robber barons – easy money requiring little ingenuity and the least effort. we have been a massive sell off nation our entire existence. to move away from the usa would cost our dear parasitic elite too much for their liking in the short term; they operate so as to enrich themselves, and care far too little about canada and canadians.
