MLAs have responsibility to engage with their constituents

By Lethbridge Herald on December 24, 2025.

Editor,

I am writing to express my strong concern regarding the recent recall efforts targeting five UPC caucus members, which I believe are entirely justifiable. My own experience with our MLA, Nathan Neudorf, mirrors the frustrations voiced by the petitioners.

I recently contacted Mr. Neudorf’s office regarding an important community issue and, disappointingly, received no response from him or his staff.

It is imperative that our elected representatives, especially those who were voted into office, make themselves available and responsive to their constituents.

In stark contrast, I have consistently received prompt and courteous responses from our MP, Rachael Thomas, and her staff, whenever I have raised concerns. Similarly, local Councillor Dodic and Mayor Hyggen have always been responsive to my messages, regardless of their perceived triviality.

This lack of engagement from Mr. Neudorf raises questions about how many other constituents are being similarly overlooked.

A fundamental responsibility of an MLA is to serve and communicate with the people they represent, and I believe there is a significant shortfall in this area.
