Terms that can’t exist together in imaginable worlds

By Lethbridge Herald on February 3, 2026.

So the Alberta separatists are looking to the Trump government for a FIVE HUNDRED BILLION line of credit to finance their “independent” micro state. That’s all you need to know to get a glimpse of these peoples’ grasp on reality. “Five hundred billion” and “line of credit” and “independent “ are not terms which can co exist in any imaginable universe even before the phrase “Trump administration” gets thrown into the mix. Someone should really introduce concepts like:”Collateral” and “foreclosure” and “first born child”to the fantasists behind the independence referendum. It would be a simple act of human kindness.

One can try to be compassionate, and forgive them their follies. But, really, they’ve barely progressed beyond honking their freedom horns and flying flags for their kinky Trudeau fetish.

Imagine them trying to understand the share of the federal debt they will inherit, and the loss of federal services that will have to he replaced by people who can’t even manage what’s already on their plate, like education and healthcare. Imagine the time it will take to negotiate passport and tax treaties with other countries – no travelling or working outside Alberta until then. Imagine the corruption as they curry favour trying to sell (or give away, like coal) our resources to foreign corporations. Unless, that is, the plan is to become Trump’s 51st state? And they get offended when someone suggests Albertans will be left far poorer after separation and that this quest is fundamentally treasonous … imagine.

Great comments. They aren’t smart enough to understand that. They don’t even know what a passport is, that’s how stupid they are.

I have uncles who fought in WW2, and have other relatives who did so too. Maybe you also have relatives who fought in WW2? Is this what our veterans fought for? The UCP and Danielle Smith are running a dictatorship.

Well said.

It’s not bad enough that Alberta is already in financial ruin with a $90 billion debt , and a $260 billion oil well cleanup mess, along with a $30 billion deficit now they want to another $500 billion debt. How stupid are these idiots?

Very well said.

There are exactly two options for Alberta:
1) Remain a part of Canada, and likely continue as the richest and lowest taxed province while producing oil at record levels.
2) Become a resource colony for the United States, either officially as the 51st state, or more likely, unofficially as a “free republic” that has no choice but to rely on the US for its survival and defense.

Anyone who thinks there’s a 3rd option where we become some sort of energy superpower, strong and free, with no dependence on either Canada or the United States is, quite simply, an idiot.
