Alberta is calling skilled labour to fill openings

By Lethbridge Herald on October 19, 2022.

Nathan Neudorf – UCP MLA for Lethbridge East

Alberta is once again a lighthouse for all those seeking freedom, opportunity, and prosperity. Whether it’s affordable homes, low taxes, good jobs, or world-class quality of life – families and businesses from across Canada are choosing to come to our province and participate in the new Alberta Advantage.

The real numbers are very exciting.

Over four years, we have welcomed 23,132 people in total. From January to June 2022, we welcomed over fifteen thousand people from other provinces. But these latest second-quarter numbers are the highest provincial migration numbers we’ve seen since 2014 and serve as a strong signal that Alberta is truly back on the right track.

This is a contrast with the grim reality we witnessed under Rachel Notley and the NDP. Back then, Alberta lost hundreds of thousands of jobs and billions of dollars of investment. When the NDP was in government, people spoke with their feet and left. Today, people are coming back. This increase in populace is why Lethbridge is beginning to see an increase in services being offered, including the seventeen new doctors agreeing to practice in our city.

Jobs and investment are also pouring back into the province as we lead the nation in economic growth.

Many of our local businesses have been thriving and are even expanding as our economy recovers. By cutting taxes and red tape, and by launching initiatives like Alberta Jobs Now and Alberta at Work, our government is continuing to do all it can to make Alberta the best place in the world to live, work, play, start a business, and raise a family.

As more jobs are created, however, more skilled workers are needed to fill them. This is why our positive net migration numbers are so welcome. Right now, Alberta is estimated to have more than 100,000 job openings. To help address these labour challenges we launched a new advertising campaign called Alberta is Calling, to highlight all the benefits of living and working in Alberta, as opposed to egregiously expensive cities like Toronto and Vancouver.

Lethbridge with its top of class College and University is a great landing place for many who want to upgrade their skills for a new job in an affordable city. More than just a destination for business, Alberta, and Lethbridge are once again a place where everyday people see hope and opportunity for the future. For generations, Canadians came to Alberta in search of better lives and better futures. Now, a new generation is following in their footsteps and heading west to participate in the promise of Alberta.

I would like to extend a warm welcome to these new Albertans. I wish them nothing but success and happiness in our great province for now, and generations to come.

Thank you Nathan, I find it helpful when you qualify the times you use ‘real’ numbers. A 0.15% annual growth through interprovincial migration is a sure indicator of Freedom and a healthy economy.

BTW, could we stop using the word Freedom like an empty logo? It does have a meaning.

Southern Albertan

The word “freedom” is used in the opening sentence here. “No word is more abused, confused, and misused in politics today.”
Premier Smith herself, used the word a few times in her acceptance speech, so no surprise here, that MLA Neudorf who came out some time ago supporting Smith and her fruity ideas, is parroting this word, ad nauseum.

Well let’s keep it going Nathan! Then hope like HELL the province-killing, job-sucking, enviro-zealot-NDP don’t get back in the next election!

SophieR

You forgot to say Freedom.

I guess living in Canada I expect freedom without mentioning it! My error for sure.

Eternal vigilance is the price of liberty, my friend.
