Spring a season of renewal, growth and gratitude

Spring in southern Alberta always brings a sense of possibility. As the days grow longer and the snow finally gives way to green grass and blooming trees, our community is reminded that change can be both natural and energizing—a time to reset, reflect, and look forward.

In that spirit, I want to take a moment to celebrate not just the season, but the signs of growth and renewal happening all around us here in Lethbridge.

Across the city, we’re seeing major investments in the future of our children. From the ongoing modernization of Galbraith Elementary to gym construction at École La Vérendrye, and the groundbreaking for the new Holy Spirit Catholic School Division elementary school in West Lethbridge, there’s no shortage of progress to be proud of.

These projects—supported by provincial funding—will deliver modern, innovative learning environments where students can thrive for generations to come.

We’ve also seen movement on a modernization or potential rebuild for St. Francis Junior High, and we’re anticipating the opening of a new public elementary school in 2025, with another new school just announced for West Lethbridge. The scale of recent investment in education facilities here is a clear signal that Lethbridge is growing—and that our government is committed to keeping pace with that growth.

But schools aren’t the only signs of change. On the west side, a new LDS temple is under construction, providing a spiritual home for many in our community and a testament to the diversity and vitality of our city.

Commercial and residential projects continue to expand, bringing new jobs, new families, and new energy to the local economy.

Spring is also a time to honour the caregivers who shape our homes, our communities, and our lives.

To all the mothers and mother figures across Lethbridge, thank you. Your strength, wisdom, and quiet leadership deserve our deepest gratitude—not just on Mother’s Day, but every day.

This spring also held one of the most pivotal federal elections in recent history. Although the outcome may not be what many had hoped for, it does offer us an opportunity to reset the relationship between Alberta and Ottawa; and I, for one, will work hard to build a stronger, more united Canada. Congratulations to MP Rachael Thomas on winning her seat here in Lethbridge she has been a strong advocate for the needs of our community.

Finally, spring offers us something we all need: the chance to pause, reflect, and reset. As the season shifts, it’s a reminder that change is constant—but so is our shared commitment to building strong, vibrant communities. In a time when many are feeling uncertainty, there’s comfort in focusing on what brings us together: our families, our neighbourhoods, and our hope for a better future.

There’s much to look forward to in Lethbridge, and I remain proud to serve this dynamic, resilient, and growing city.

Happy spring, and Happy Mother’s Day.
