Seniors minister a welcome addition

By Lethbridge Herald on July 28, 2018.

I would like to thank The Herald for the editorial in the July 19 Herald, “Cabinet adds voice for seniors.” On behalf of the Lethbridge Federal Liberal EDA, I congratulate your editors for writing a very positive and informative editorial.
I was on the Seniors Policy Committee that researched and wrote the background paper supporting the Seniors Ministry Resolution. The resolution was sponsored by Edmonton Centre, Strathcona and Lethbridge EDAs.
This resolution was passed on the floor of the Spring 2018 Policy Convention in Halifax. It was number seven out of 31 resolutions.
We were so surprised to see that the prime minister appointed a minister for seniors within three months of its passing!
What your editorial highlighted was very similar to our supporting background paper that was sent with this resolution. The resolution was supported and advanced to be included for debating by the Liberal Party of Canada in Alberta LPCA policy Chair.
This appointment, I believe, will make it easier and more effective for dealing with all Seniors issues under one umbrella, the Ministry of Seniors.
Lethbridge Federal Liberal Association is in the process of organizing a celebration on or before Oct. 1 as International Seniors Day to thank and celebrate seniors for their past and future contributions to our country, Canada.
