City proposal to switch to online public notices a mistake

By Letter to the Editor on December 3, 2020.

Dear councillors at city hall,
We are writing to protest the proposal made by the City to blank out public notice advertisements placed in our great local newspaper: The Lethbridge Herald. Apparently they are considering going online to place ads. This is such an unfortunate proposal.
We, who have been in Lethbridge since 1968, have appreciated and enjoyed having easy hands-on/eyes-on access to the local Lethbridge news as well as world news. There is quite high percentage of elders living in Lethbridge. We know of many older people who have deliberately moved to Lethbridge to enjoy our sunny climate and our lovely scenery. These people often aren’t skilled in using iPhones and computers.
The paper is well written and well researched.
We urge you to throw the poorly thought-out suggestion in the waste-paper basket!
Marg and Gene Falkenberg
Lethbridge
