Climate change a battle everyone must fight

By Letter to the Editor on June 9, 2021.

Editor:
In the June issue of Harper’s magazine, Greg Jackson presents a penetrating essay on how the world must deal with climate change.
He refers to it as a fight and uses the USA’s response to its involvement in the Second World War.
It is his contention that the same total response to the climate crisis must be immediately put into action by the whole world.
Just as the USA was instrumental in winning the Second World War so too all of us must fight again to defeat this threat to our planet.

So, we must all become Don Quixote. Remember that climate change was created by big government for a new financial stream.

what we need to control is human population, and unlimited wants by a human pop growing exponentially. moreover, that pop growth is accessing more “wealth”, and thus comes with an “ability” to consume more junk. that junk is derived from a toxic approach to mining, environmental devastation, and results in ever more junk being dumped virtually everywhere. screw climate change: our issues are us – our behaviours. having the money to do does not confer upon one the right to do. and still we see the likes of fools with their power boats, atvs, big trucks, giant houses for tiny families, manufactured goods that are purposely made to become junk in a few years, digital devices being turned over every couple years…madness. sure hope money survives it all, but all that lives is sure going to go through some serious suffering if we do not wake up.

That’s all true Biff, but population control is never going to happen. Reason being, humans are too emotionally self righteous and egotistical to pursue the logic of population control.

why do you think we got the man made corona virus?

Seth Anthony

Are you suggesting the elite are trying to save the world by killing people?

phlushie

Look a t the target group for the virus. The old and infirm (or the no-productive and the needy for health care).

EDIT- In hindsight, global population by race/region shows that educated and non religious Caucasians have been reducing their offspring numbers. In contrast, non Caucasian races which are typically less educated and religious, are still pumping babies out like it’s no one’s business.

and it is going to take some heavy hand to curb our addiction to buying stuff, let alone that we have come to accept products that turn to scrap prematurely.
and now, as no discussion of pop growth is complete without reference to a few bars of ‘every sperm is sacred…’, here is the monty python troupe https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fUspLVStPbk

I love Python, and that’s one of my favorites. Python’s brilliant humor will never get old.

Ya, uh…our planet can’t “protect itself”. Planets aren’t alive, let alone sentient.

Sheesh. I can’t believe I had to say that 🙂

this one is very much alive – like all life forms, it has a basis in homeostasis. as some of us are learning, in order to survive, it must react to the imbalances being created. also, consider this: wherever one finds living things, there must be other living things in order for life. living things on living plants; on living soil; on living reefs; all on a living planet.
