The conservatives are creating a bizarre world

By Lethbridge Herald on February 10, 2022.

Editor:

Conservatives in Canada are blatantly anti-health. From supporting illegal insurrections demanding the end of public health practices, to passing laws banning people from using public health measures, how did we reach a point where Canadian conservatives actually have public policies calling for an end to health?

When did that become an acceptable platform for a political party?

I feel like I must have missed a few intervening steps somewhere. To suddenly be posting how the number of illnesses and deaths is acceptable, because these sacrifices keep the economy growing, seems like quite the stretch without having some interim stages to get people used to the idea of sacrificing life and limb.

Was there a relaxation of the law preventing folks from spitting on people? Did we start allowing the neighbours to kill irritating pets on their block? It’s good for pet sales.

I may have missed some of these developments so I was taken by surprise when my provincial government started the human cull.

Now people following doctor’s recommendations are attacked in the streets, while doctors themselves are attacked in hospitals. Health is suddenly a bad thing instead of a good thing. If you want to follow health best practices, you may have to hide the fact you’re doing it.

I’m just waiting for the pandemic practices tip line – report a mask!

The conservatives are creating a bizarro world. I hope they don’t succeed at dragging us all into it.

As the former conservative MLAs from the Lougheed era that I knew would tell you that’s because they aren’t conservatives they are Reformers, and the lunatics who support them are too dumb to realize what they are doing to us.
How many seniors are going to be in a terrible mess trying to find enough money to buy groceries and where are they going to find a doctor when thy need one. Some of our senior friends have already lost their doctors and friends who have cancer are told it’s too late to operate, you only have a short time to live.
At coffee yesterday it was noted that the only politicians dumb enough to support these criminals are phony conservatives , Reformers. Drew Barnes and Grant Hunter proving how stupid they are>
Students are saying they feel a lot safer wearing masks in school, yet this fool, Jason Kenney, without talking to the students has eliminated masks in schools. He doesn’t give a damn about what students think.
But for years we have been trying to tell these stupid seniors what they were getting us into and they found it smart to call us all sorts of names for not being as dumb as them. We hope you have Lots of money you are certainly going to need it. .

Resolute

You my boy are full of it. Nonsense not worthy of a reply.

Southern Albertan

What is in the forefront for right wing politics in Canada these days, are the internal splits, both federally, and provincially here with the Kenney UCP. It appears that this may make right wing politics unable to govern.

It’s giving the people a good look at what these Reformers are only interested in. They are proving what I was taught by the former MLAs from the Lougheed era “Don’t ever trust a Reformer”. They have certainly proven why you shouldn’t.
What is so upsetting is the fact that these fools have taken all of us with them when it comes to the high cost of living and lack of doctors and nurses.
Trudeau must be thrilled with the stupidity being displayed. At coffee yesterday we noted that the only politicians dumb enough to support these truckers are Reformers. Right -wing extremists, nothing like the true conservatives we proudly supported under Lougheed and Getty.
Reformers Drew Barnes and Grant Hunter have made complete fools of themselves. You didn’t see Rachael Notley bragging about supporting them. She is a lot smarter. Lougheed wouldn’t have either.

Spoken like a true NDP candidate. Everything every other party does, bad, NDP do it, good.

I agree Mr. Moffat! As some other comments have stated, the UCP is not, not the PC’s true Conservatives, nor are the Liberals true Liberal.
Not sure what a reformer is supposed to be, since they deviate to whatever direction they feel they will get re-elected, whether it is good or bad for the public.
It appears the UCP wants to privatize the EMS, the Healthcare system and others, so I can only assume that means they have corporate friends that they are trying to please for whatever reason. The UCP has destroyed our EMS system with it’s central dispatch, alienated the doctors and nurses in this province at a time when they are burnt out from the COVID crisis.
Which by the way I give a GREAT BIG THANK YOU for continuing to get up everyday and go to work in an environment that has to be depressing!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! YOU ARE STILL HEROES AND THAT WILL NEVER STOP IN MY MIND!
My biggest fear is that these heroes in our healthcare are going to get hit with another wave within weeks from the UCP falling for terrorist demands to end all mandates, putting Albertans at further risk and setting in place the possibility for another wave to hit hospitals.
That will the fault of the UCP and terrorists that are receiving 52.6% of their funding from the US radicals, with only 36.8% Canadian to wreck havoc across this country! The UCP, the Cons both have shown they side with these radicals!
So, would that mean that the UCP or reformers are connected to these US funded radicals somehow?
I know that over 50% of Lethbridge residents do not have a GP doctor now because of the UCP actions and EMS services have been impaired dramatically!
We are in such a mess in this country, oncw great country that people worldwide dreamt of moving to, but now US radicals have destroyed our country, allowed by poor leadership, leadership we voted in!!

Average hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19 in the province for the week starting January 3 = 477. Average hospitalizations of patients with COVID-19 for the week starting January 30 = 1,413. That’s a 196% increase. The average for this week so far is 1,592.

Over that same period, the number of COVID-19 patients in ICU went from 61 to 126. Thankfully, ICU admissions are below the total number of ICU beds in the province, but what if lifting restrictions leads to another surge?

COVID-19 restrictions are not just about limiting the death rate, they are also meant to keep the health-care system from being overwhelmed with seriously-ill people.

After 2 years, Gov. can see that impacts to society and the economy far outweigh the mortality rate. Yes, people will continue to die (and that’s sad) but those that are alive have to live and pay their mortgage etc. Time we learned to live with this virus and let go of fear.
