I am appalled at the letter to the editor (Herald Sept. 1) from Jill Skriver who said she supports the convoy hoodlums who in my view if they had been successful in convincing Canadians not to support public health guidelines would have meant a serious blow to the freedom of many Canadians.
There is little freedom in an ICU or a hospital ward. Apparently Jill valued personal trips to California and Kelowna over the safety of Canadians. Let’s face it, these thugs intimidated peaceful citizens in Ottawa, blocked the Ambassador Bridge between Windsor and Detroit causing economic hardship and planned to murder RCMP at the Coutts border to Montana.
The only problem with the Emergencies Act is that it was not used soon enough. Skriver was wrong when she said it was brought in by Prime Minister and Deputy Prime Minister Freeland. It was brought in by a wise Conservative government in 1988. The federal Conservatives have gone downhill since then; even some aspiring to lead the National Party are claiming they always supported the convoy. They are often referred to as the Tory Trump wing.
Hopefully others will write to the parliamentary committee looking into the use of the Emergencies Act with a sane approach.
