Russia’s war on Ukraine has many different levels

Reality is often more complex than the eye can see.

Any significant event or process has its obvious outer layers as well as hidden motives and agendas underneath. On the surface, Russia wants to annex parts of Ukraine, which fights vigorously to maintain its independence.

However, beneath the surface, another war is being waged. NATO and Russia are testing their weapons in real-war situations on Ukrainian ground, without engaging in direct warfare with one another.

Iran is testing their drones in Ukraine; drones that may later be used against Israel. Therefore, Israel should test its “iron dome” defense system against Iranian drones in Ukraine to ensure it is effective, and upgrade it where necessary.

Putin fights two wars in Ukraine: one against the Ukrainian army, and one against civilians.

By destroying in winter the infrastructure for housing, water, electricity, food, and transport, Putin tries to undermine the will of Ukrainians to continue fighting. As NATO countries supply Ukraine with better air-defence systems, Putin’s rocket attacks may be neutralized.

The present Russia-Ukraine war is the first to use drones extensively. Both sides use them for reconnaissance and attacks. Their size varies from hand-size to that of light airplanes.

Drones are changing traditional warfare away from tanks, canons, and trenches. Remote-controlled drones can drop bombs and grenades on trenches, tanks, command centers, and fuel and ammo depots. Drones are much cheaper than high-tech missiles. Both sides are using traditional and ultra-modern war technology.

Putin is also fighting an economic war against sanctions and their impact. A media war about facts and propaganda is in full swing, too.

As civilians suffer and soldiers on both sides die by the thousands, opposition to the war increases – even in Russia.

Kherson is important to Ukraine, because it may give them control over Ukraine’s south coast (for exports), and open the way to Crimea. The main targets there are airfields, the Kirsch bridge, and the Russian fleet in Sevastopol Harbour.
