Herald didn’t deserve reader’s accusation of bias

By Lethbridge Herald on March 22, 2023.

Editor:

After reading March 16th Lethbridge Herald I felt I needed to come out in defence of the Herald.

You were chastised by Tom Burns for promoting, in his view, Rob Miyashiro, and he concluded that this confirmed that the Herald was a socialist newspaper and this proved it.

However, on the second page of the Herald was the article about Torry Tanner newly chosen by the UCP to go up against the incumbent Shannon Phillips in Lethbridge West.

It was a lovely upbeat piece.

After reading it I knew as little about Ms. Tanner as I had before. I looked her up on the internet. And what I found I thought was disturbing.

Ms. Tanner had a failed lawsuit against Dr. Deena Hinshaw challenging COVID-19 health care restrictions.

At election time it is very important that we know as much as we can about a candidate, not just what a pleasant personality he or she has.

For the past several years Shannon Phillips has been roasted and toasted in equal measure by the Herald. The electorate here has loved her and loathed her.

But I think we knew a great deal about her and whether or not we, as individuals, thought she was worth voting for or not. Let us all become well informed before casting our vote. And let the best woman win.

Failed lawsuit? Interesting! And what of the COVID restrictions that the Kenney UCP imposed?

zulu1

Even the federal government has commented on the overreach of covid restrictions, so a lawsuit against such actions should alarm no one .

Miyashiro will hang himself since he cannot control his outbursts, as seen during City Council meetings. Shannon Phillips has also proven to be volatile in the Legislation after an unprofessional outbursts towards MLA Neudorf, where she was on the edge of her desk as if she was going to jump over it and attack the MLA, displaying loud, rapid speech and facial expressions/body posture that one may see at a bar or on the school yard.
Both are out of control and makes me wonder where are we going in society when we see such displays of anger and hate!

lumpy

You’re not serious, are you?

Who was disciplined by the speaker of the house? Not Phillips

R.U.Serious

MLA Neudorf for bringing up MLA’s Phillips children.
You body stance and angry attack was unprofessional and was what we have witnessed several times in the last few months in various angry news releases.
Suing the LPS when they dealt with the issues in a more than reasonable manner is also another example that will cost the Lethbridge taxpayer, not the LPS!!!!!!

All 4 seem like garbage candidates. If one of them really wants to win a Lethbridge riding, he/she should promise that their party will give $100M for a third bridge.

Or maybe a competent, well-known person should run as an independent (just in case the tight election ends in a tie) to have full voting control over the legislature.

it is hard to fathom that so many people still feel the system has near enough integrity. vote in one group, they suck, so vote back in the previous group that sucked and repeat. rather than find worthy people with heartfelt intentions, we instead have a very busted and corrupted, antiquated system that is most about tossing out bums so as to make room for another set of bums.
the best message we can send, outside of a good old fashioned revolution, is to strike an x through the ballots and send the loud and clear message that one no longer chooses to legitimise the corruption.
