Litter left behind at Henderson Lake park not acceptable behaviour

A few thoughts about littering: Canada Day has come and gone, there were lots of activities around town ending with a fireworks display at Henderson Lake.

The morning after I went for my usual morning walk around the lake and noticed there was a considerable amount of garbage on the grass often well within walking distance of a garbage disposal bin. All this had to be collected by City employees.

I also noticed that City employees erected orange snow fencing barriers around some areas of the park . This fencing was attached to steel T-bars with plastic cable or zip ties.

On my Monday morning walk I noticed that the fencing and the posts were gone, however the plastic zip ties were not, they were scattered all over on the grass and the curbs.

There were several large banners, advertising the dragon boat races, attached to the chain link fencing at the corner of MayorMagrath Dr. and South Parkside Dr. The banners were removed, not the plastic zip ties: they were left behind on the sidewalk .

So were you a good citizen and pick up the zip ties??? Or is is “not my job”. I pick crap up all the time, saves sending out 80,000 employees and trucks to pick up a few ties or pieces of paper. I agree some people will behave like depraved animals and leave their trash everywhere.

You’re so noble, Mr. happy!
