Laws need to be changed to keep drug dealers off the streets

By Lethbridge Herald on August 19, 2023.

Editor:

Politicians now have a chance to change the law. But none of them want to do the right thing to fight the drug overdose deaths by changing the laws.

Almost 35,000 people have died from drug-related crimes and addiction since 2016 while only 2,500 have died from gun violence since 2009.

Drugs are what’s the most important thing to get rid of – yes, I know everyone who dies before old age is a sad thing and many deaths could probably be prevented!

The drug problem could be eradicated by harsher laws for dealers .. . by jailing drug dealers for at least manslaughter as they sell their drugs to addicted people until they die.

So jail drug dealers for 15 years for manslaughter (the killing of a victim indirectly).  No parole for at least 10 years. That should slow the deaths down some as most of these criminals don’t want to go to jail that long. If not prison then wear ankle bracelets.

Maybe then instead of dealing drugs the dealers might try doing something that’s legal to make money (some are overconfident that they will never be caught).

The other way is to allow police to use deadly force on drug dealers! Oh wait, we are supposed to be civilized!

The drug problem will continue to be the biggest killing field in Canada due to inaction by politicians!

Our criminals are off-shoots of drug addiction: gangs who use drugs and other  activities to get what they want. Prostitution is an off-shoot of drug addiction for men and women (mostly women forced to get money to buy drugs)! Robbery by all or most of the addicted to buy drugs and theft and people who sell everything they own and live on the street to save to buy drugs is an off-shoot.

That is the problem the justice system can’t stop because the laws are wrong!  Amend or change the laws to get drug dealers off the street for more than a few months.

The criminal will never obey the gun control laws – that’s why they are criminals!

sure has been helping them there, right? not.

Say What . . .

First we have to replace the current federal government! They are on a mission to destroy this country and weaken it so the criminals, the cartels, along with China can take it over!

I’m trying to imagine what kind of a person would put that in print and sign their name to it. Yes, allowing the police to randomly kill people they think are problems couldn’t possibly be a problem. People like you are scarier than any drug dealer.
Your police state aspirations aside, this is an easy problem to solve. How many liquor dealers do you know? Why do you think that is?

old school

Perhaps police shooting drug dealers is a bit of an overstatement, but drug dealers back on the street before the police report is done is big part of the problem.
Alcohol and drugs are 2 different products with different results. That’s simple enough. Will drug problem go away when drugs are legalized?

You don’t even know what a police state is and your progressive and Marxist ideas are what has destroyed this country and killed so many addicts!

It is scary young minds are presently educated by a portion of the scholastics we currently find in our unversities who even have banned free speech! Escape your ivory tower and travel to nations like China, Cuba, Venezuela, Italy, Egypt, Belarus, and others and see what a police state is!

Obviously you wouldn’t focus when in those nations and see, since you are so ignorant about what is around you.
