Letter on E.coli issue at Calgary daycares not based on facts

By Lethbridge Herald on September 23rd, 2023

Editor: In response to the letter to the editor on Saturday, Sept. 16 from Stan Adamus: First of all, editor, this was one person’s unsubstantiated opinion, with no proof in fact of corporate greed.  I am totally amazed that you published this drivel. Secondly of all,  Mr. Adamus should go to most of our large ... Read More »

The time has come for a regional water and wastewater authority

By Lethbridge Herald on September 22nd, 2023

Editor: One of the many benefits of modern society is the convenience and peace of mind that come from public utilities:  clean water and lights that work seemingly without effort for decades. The reality however is that essential services are subject to failure if mismanaged.    Just as bad as planning to fail is failing ... Read More »

Each of us has to come to terms with the inevitability of our own deaths

By Lethbridge Herald on September 22nd, 2023

Editor: I read in the Globe and Mail today ( Sept. 16, 2023) that a survivor of the Moroccan earthquake felt he was blessed by God that none of his family was killed. This while many of his neighbours died and the King of Morocco kept silent in his Paris mansion (80 million Euro dollars) ... Read More »

Corporate greed probably behind massive E.coli breakout in Calgary

By Lethbridge Herald on September 16th, 2023

Editor: There are 310 confirmed cases of E-coli at 11 day care centres in Calgary and probably more to come. This is a staggering amount of E-coli in one localized area. Likely preventable.  I believe it’s a case of corporate greed superceding health and compromising safety. Rather than use multiple food preparation companies or use ... Read More »

London’s success story with homelessness needs to be taken seriously

By Lethbridge Herald on September 13th, 2023

Editor: Thank you Lethbridge Herald for the recent series of reporting on homelessness. I especially appreciated the comparison between two opposing views.  I do not have any fresh idea except drawing attention to the article by Doug Saunders in the Globe and Mail published on July 22nd. It was about the homeless people in London, ... Read More »

Attacks upon the gay community pathetic and reprehensible

By Lethbridge Herald on September 13th, 2023

Editor: Recent shenanigans in Fort Macleod surrounding Pride celebrations of sexual and gender diversity bring to mind a dismissive comment from my mother many years ago when confronted with the behaviour of some puffed-up male – “Oh, he’s a small man.” Ouch! To be so appraised by a woman of considerable dignity and strength of ... Read More »

Vacant building in northside mall would make an ideal shelter

By Lethbridge Herald on September 13th, 2023

Editor:  I have only lived in Lethbridge for the last five years, but every time I go to London Drugs on the north side, I wonder why some business men/women have not taken that large building off to the side and made a shelter out of it.  It looks to have been a supermarket at ... Read More »

Canadians need to make the most out of the country’s energy resources

By Lethbridge Herald on September 9th, 2023

Editor: I’m writing to thank the Herald for publishing letters expressing some optimism for our future, from Braum Barber and Rachael Thomas last week. Braum emphasized a need to plan for the ecosystem health of the province. Rachel indicated “human flourishing” should be the goal of our governments. I do have a question for Braum: ... Read More »

Healthy forests are enormously important for carbon capture

By Lethbridge Herald on September 8th, 2023

Editor: Prime Minister Trudeau visited the North West Territories last weekend to show sympathy and promise help. Then he commented on the wildfires. He reportedly said a comment, meant to be funny, but it almost made me cry. “We will make people clean the leaves out of their eavestroughs.”  The sorrow is from his position ... Read More »

More bicycle lanes will only benefit the stores that sell bikes

By Lethbridge Herald on September 8th, 2023

Editor:  I don’t think there was much thought or research done by Kellan Scholten (Sept. 1 letter to the editor) regarding bike lanes for traversing to shop.I can’t imagine riding my bike to a business for a purchase such as a dresser, saddle piano or anything else that is not feasible to carry on a ... Immigrant workers needed to do many types of jobs in this country

By Lethbridge Herald on September 2nd, 2023

Editor: I agree that we need houses and rental places as we do not have enough at all. But here is the thing, who will build these houses? Who from our youth want to do the work of a plumber or carpenter and so on? So we need people to help us. I am sure ... Read More »
