Mr. Premier, the promised cuts to some programs, the re-aligning of monetary support to doubtful venues and fully expecting inconveniences due to those actions was something I, as a senior in a small rural town, wholeheartedly supported, providing discretion, consideration and common sense were the basis for their decisions. Unfortunately, it seems they wanted to ... Read More »

This May, we remember the Canadians who sacrificed life and limb to help liberate the Netherlands 75 years ago. I had the privilege of growing up in The War Amps Child Amputee (CHAMP) Program which was started by war amputee veterans. Through Operation Legacy, amputees like me pay tribute to the veterans who founded the ... Read More »

The April 30 Lethbridge Herald headline says “City must get creative to help business.” OK, here’s a suggestion from a guy who rarely shows himself in the downtown area for a variety of reasons (safety near the top of my concerns). Safety aside, could getting “creative” include free parking, so we don’t have to worry ... Read More »

I watch with horror the anguish, fear, uncertainty and loss of life of our elders living in nursing homes. My late mother lived in assisted-living facilities and nursing homes for many years and it was not a good experience. These institutions are grossly underfunded, resulting in shortage of personal-care staff. The care staff is unable ... Read More »

I don’t know how you feel, but I am forever grateful to my general practitioner, Dr. Michael Cunningham. Since he arrived from Ireland, I have been his patient, marvelling at his depth of knowledge and application to all my related health issues. What struck me immediately was his efficiency, yet personability. I was to learn ... Read More »

Questions are being asked today about how soon can we go back to work. We have had the chance to question ourselves about how we value life, our daily activities, jobs, time with family, and the economy. During our isolation time we might have questioned whether jobs and the economy are the most important things. ... Read More »

What can you do now to help save the lives of seniors in care homes? Many Alberta senior care homes are private, for profit. Most don’t employ enough in-house staff to meet their residents’ needs. Many home-care workers, paid separately by Alberta Health Services, attend other seniors residents in one day. All care workers should ... Read More »

So the dairy farmers are to receive a billion plus dollars in aid, because they lost some of their market share due to the NAFTA agreement. Freeland and Trudeau knew darn well they couldn’t keep their promise to the dairy farmers not to compromise the sacred supply management. When that became apparent, we’ll promise you ... Read More »

RCMP asking sympathy for a dead officer takes me back to shooting of four young Mounties in Alberta decade or so ago. Though those officers were sent to a duck shoot by a known danger, the RCMP bosses escaped blame by arresting men who had given the killer a ride. As the killers’ hairdresser told ... Read More »
