Government’s online pension survey prompts concerns

By Lethbridge Herald on November 1st, 2023

Editor: I recently took the Alberta government’s online pension survey. Below are some of the concerns I have with the survey:  My first and most serious concern relates to the survey’s overall tone. Many of the questions contain the phrase “Assuming an APP is established,” and then proceed to solicit views on how such a ... Read More »

UCP’s advertising campaign spreading fear among Albertans

By Lethbridge Herald on November 1st, 2023

Editor: I am writing today in the interests of accountability to Albertans. If you can provide some answers, I would be most appreciative. Regarding the $8 million “advertising campaign,” is there no newspaper editor or manager in Alberta who can refuse to have each Friday’s cover page blacked out by the UCP government? The campaign ... Premier Smith’s ads in the newspaper show weak leadership

By Lethbridge Herald on October 28th, 2023

Editor: Regarding Premier Danielle Smith’s full page ads in the Lethbridge Herald and other Alberta newspapers (Sept. 27, re: Alberta Pension Plan and Oct.6, re: electricity regulations.):  There is an old saying, “Profanity is the sign of a weak mind trying to express itself strongly.” To paraphrase, “Running full page ads in Alberta newspapers is ... Wind and solar power contribute to lower energy costs

By Lethbridge Herald on October 28th, 2023

Editor: Our Premier Danielle Smith says, “current electricity rates could also double, triple or even quadruple.”   Without a crystal ball she doesn’t have a clue what electricity rates will be in 2035 and neither do the people advising her.  The premier has little familiarity with the Alberta grid, it’s resources and it’s associated operations.   ... It’s easy to con people when you tell them what they want to believe

By Lethbridge Herald on October 27th, 2023

Editor: One of the sad truths is it’s always easier to con people when you’re telling them something that they want to believe.  Whether it’s the lottery numbers have to come up your kid’s birthdates, your street address, and your lucky number seven, or, your great grandmother really did have an affair with that African ... The difference between war and terrorism is viewpoint

By Lethbridge Herald on October 27th, 2023

Editor:  A lot is being said recently about the difference between war and terrorism. People like to claim war is a justifiable, if regrettable, course of action, whereas terrorism is evil, and its perpetrators are despicable, malevolent actors who should be wiped from the face of the earth.  This is a laughable distinction in these ... Money used on pension plan campaign could have been better spent

By Lethbridge Herald on October 27th, 2023

Editor: You can imagine my surprise upon getting our Herald this Friday morning, Oct. 6 with the front page blackened, courtesy of our provincial government – and disrespecting our federal government – “Tell the Feds.”  Then, to turn the page and find another full black page.  My question to our premier is this: what was ... Whatever happened to the Conservatives of old in this country?

By Lethbridge Herald on October 21st, 2023

Editor:  Our Lethbridge Herald recorded the presence of MP Thomas at the ceremonies for the new president of Lethbridge university. Apparently, she had nothing to say about southern Albertan’s concerns on coal mines in our water, or protecting our CPPfrom the local nominal Conservatives.  The Conservative mindset on spending of our tax dollars focuses only ...
